Markádia was inaugurated in January 1987, based on the idea of creating good quality tourist facilities with the dazzling natural and cultural wealth of Alentejo as an attraction. At the time there was virtually no type of tourism in the area and it took courage and determination to develop this pioneering project. The Markádia Tourist Complex was then created.

The campsite and accommodation, the catering, the mini-market were developed and we provided the first swimming pool in the vicinity, the first tennis courts as well as canoes and pedalos for navigating the reservoir. We have been publicizing our place in the Alentejo ever since, attracting national and foreign tourists, convincing them to enjoy this paradisiacal place with the aim of sharing and preserving it. Finally, but very satisfied, twenty years later, in 2007, the Albufeira de Odivelas and its surroundings were declared, by the Council of Ministers, as a National Ecological Reserve in which we operate.
